The summer holidays are here, and if you've recently moved into the Southbourne area or are thinking about relocating, you might be wondering how you are going to spend the long, and hopefully sunny, days. Whether you're looking for thrills and excitement, or the best walking trails around, we have put together a list of family activities that are near our new Southbourne Fields neighbourhood in West Sussex.
Beachside days
One of the most popular aspects of Southbourne is its naturally diverse surroundings - from secluded beaches and quiet lakes, to mossy woodlands and wide-open fields. Across the quiet Thorney Island, residents will find the serene beachfront of Longmere Point, perfect for sandy picnics or long strolls with the dog. Just a little further afield, Hayling Island offers up a livelier shoreline experience, with ocean view cafes, traditional fish and chip shops, and an amusement park complete with rollercoatsers and penny drop machines.
A taste of culture
Set in the heart of the beautiful South Downs national park, and just five miles from the Southbourne Fields community, is the stunning house and grounds of Stansted Park. In this historic stately home, visitors will find a charming tearoom, hedge maze and railway ride around the lush grounds, as well as a taste of the rich history that runs throughout. The estate also offers a garden centre and farm shop, allowing you to browse and stock up on locally sourced goods and exotic plants.
Adventure park thrills
Hop in the car and less than an hour away, you'll find yourself at the amazing Fishers Adventure Farm Park. Here, children of all ages can enjoy the rides and attractions on offer, whether that is with some healthy competition at the racecourses or testing their physical skills at the woodland assault course and rock wall. The park is also home to a number of fairground rides, including a ghost train, splash zone and merry go rounds. When it's time to wind down, families can relax by taking in a show at the indoor theatre, or greeting the farmyard animals at the petting zoo.
Two-wheeled adventures
There's no better way to spend a summer's day than by getting on your bikes and exploring the local area. Whether you're looking for a full day's adventure cycling across the surrounding rolling hills, or just a short ride around the village, the family will love getting together to take in the picturesque landscape.
A hop across the water
Finally, why not treat the family to a long weekend away at the Isle of Wight? With family-friendly adventure parks, golden beaches and The Needles chairlift that takes you to the famous chalk rock formations, there is something for every taste. The island is the perfect place to go for a short holiday, offering quiet streets, hidden coves and tasty restaurants - and it's only a short trip across the pond.
