Cambridge is well known as one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the UK. Regularly named as one of the best places to live in the country, its unique blend of history, scenery and entertainment leave little doubt as to why.
Nestled on the gateway to eastern England on the river Cam and surrounded by beautiful countryside, Cambridge strikes a perfect balance between having all the amenities of a popular city with the peace of the surrounding area.
As well as the wide range of restaurants and shopping that you’d expect of a busy city popular with students and tourists, Cambridge has a long tradition of hosting regular events — particularly throughout the summer months. The historic Midsummer Fair dates back to 1211, while the annual Cambridge Beer Festival is the longest-running of its type in the UK.
For those into live events, the Arts Theatre regularly hosts prestigious productions touring around the country, while the huge Cambridge Corn Exchange is the city’s main venue for large events and concerts.
The city is ideally located for both travel to London, which is under 50 minutes away by train, and to other surrounding cities such as Norwich. However, thanks to its booming economy, Cambridge is also a popular commuter destination in its own right, and transport links throughout the city are good. Cycling has long been the preferred way for many residents to travel around, due to its gentle gradients.
The city has an excellent range of schools. Both The Spinney Primary School and St Albans Catholic Primary School are both rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted. Highly rated secondary schools include Chesterton Community College, Parkside Community College and The Leys co-educational boarding and day school.
